Christmas Around the Village

Residents and guests at Trinity Village were able to stroll through the beautifully decorated community, hear the sounds of the season and enjoy holiday cheer at their annual Christmas Around the Village. Dickens Carolers and a harpist provided festive music, Santa stopped by to hear wish lists and take pictures and there was plenty of appetizers and treats to snack on.

Fall into Wellness

Hand and full-body massages were just some of the offerings at Trinity Village's "Fall into Wellness" health fair. The annual event is geared towards adults ages 55 and older and is sponsored by the community's AgeWell by Immanuel. This year the health fair attracted more than 100 people and featured 40 vendors who offered hearing, vision and bone density screenings; blood pressure, balance and cholesterol checks; and community, safety and nutritional information. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of healthy aging and the benefits of being an AgeWell member. The wellness center has state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strenght-training equipment and classes specially geared towards the older, active adult led by qualified and professionally-trained staff.

Trinity Village residents are “Living Life” as part of National Assisted Living Week September 12-18. Started in 1995, the week is a celebration of the accomplishments and contributions of assisted living residents across the nation. Trinity kicked off the week with a tailgating party in honor of Grandparent's Day. The day was complete with performances by local high school cheerleaders, bands, the Stepping Saints Drill Team and others. Residents were also treated to musical entertainment by several different local musicians, trivia, games and a slide show. The week culminated with a special Italian dinner and social hour. The amount of activities planned illustrates that you don’t have to be a rock climber or a marathon runner to live life to its fullest.

Athletes and Elders

Residents are coming down with a case of Maverick fever as part of the Athletes and Elders Program. The program pairs student athletes from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) with area senior retirement communities.

During the fall semester, the student athletes will routinely visit residents and participate in various activities and activities at their community. In turn, residents are encouraged to attend the student athlete's practice, game and match. Twelve athletic programs are involved in the unique program and include hockey, soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball. UNO Athletic Director Trev Alberts helped kick off the program recently by saying, “This multifaceted partnership with UNO Athletics, at its heart, adds seniors to the UNO circle of life experience and education, and is rewarding to all involved.”

Trinity Village has paired up with the UNO golf team. Soon-to-be 98-year-old Maudene Stice loves the game and is excited to participate in the program. Says Maudene, "I've been playing since I was 25-years-old and was a Montana state golf champion. I’ve also been lucky enough to sink two holes-in-one during my golf career. For me, the day was lost if I don't play golf." Eighty-year-old Ken Palmer agrees and adds, "I started playing when I was 55-years-old and now play twice a week. I love the personal challenge of the game."

Rudy's Message: Don't Stop Dreaming
